Presumptive EP-TB

Extrapulmonary TB (EPTB) is TB involving any part of the body other than the lungs, e.g., pleura, lymph nodes, abdomen, genitourinary tract, skin, joints, bones, meninges and other sites. A case of Presumptive Extra Pulmonary TB is identified when they exhibit symptoms and signs suggestive of EP TB.

Symptoms of EP TB are dependent on the site of TB as illustrated below.

Cases of Presumptive EP TB are identified by the doctor on clinical evaluation.

Cases identified as Presumptive EP TB must undergo diagnostic evaluation using the appropriate biological sample and test. For example Presumptive EP TB with lymph node swelling needs diagnostic evaluation using a FNAC or biopsy to draw sample and needs to be tested on CBNAAT or Truenat.
